What to expect
No idea what this is about? Watch impressions from past hackathons.
What is a hackathon?
Hackathon is a portmanteau of the words “hack” and “marathon”. In our case it is an event in which people interested in computational sensing collaborate intensively on software projects related to this topic.
Who will attend the event?
We try to get a good mixture including software people, designers, people from various industries, students, technology enthusiasts and many more.
What type of technology will I be able to work with?
You will be able to develop apps with Kinect, Unity3D, Project Oxford, Cortana, Microsoft Band and IoT Kits. For every technology experts are available to get you started.
IMPORTANT: If you bring your own computer and you want to develop an app with Kinect, you will need USB 3.0.
I have no idea about computer vision. Should I participate?
Yes! The workshop is intended to train you on these topics. Throughout the whole event experts from Microsoft Corp. US and Germany and Metrilus will be there to guide you and help you.
What should I expect at the hackathon?
First of all you should expect a lot of fun. You will learn a lot about new technology and you will meet new people and be able to make new connections.
Are there any awards?
Yes, everyone gets a cool T-Shirt and we will have prices for the best hacks:
1st – 500 EUR / Kinect + IoT Kit (both up to 5 team members)
2nd – 250 EUR / Kinect (up to 5 team members)

There will be a special award for the best medical hack including
– 150 EUR
– 1-month co-working space access
– startup coaching
– exhibition space at ‘Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften‘
Prior to the hackathon event we will offer a workshop on computational sensing. The workshop will cover topics related to Kinect, Unity, Cortana, Project Oxford and much more.Your registration includes participation in the workshop, evening event and hackathon.
And yeah, drinks and food will be provided.

You can come solo and meet up with others and form a team at the event or you can get your crew together beforehand and come as a team.
- Who supplies the Kinects, Bands and IoT Kits?
Microsoft will have loaner sensors for your team to use at the event, but if you have your own you are welcome to bring it.

Use of Technology
Kinect offers some really special features. Show us how you can make the most of the new API.
When there’s purpose there’s a case for users. Show us why people will want your creation.
This is a hackathon. We want to see your project do cool stuff!
There will be an additional prize for the team who creates the best medical application.
- Where is the hackathon being held?
